WfaAR Evidence to Parliamentary Committee examining the Constitution

National Convenor, Sarah Brasch, represents Women for an Australian Republic at a Zoom round table of republicans, monarchists and constitutional lawyers involved in the Uluru Statement at the request of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs. The committee was examining modernising the processes of constitutional change and engaging voters in both civics and referendums. Several of WfaAR’s recommendations, principal among them to create a new standing Parliamentary Committee to continuously review the contents of the Constitution, were picked up by the Committee in its report published on 23 December 2021. Widely supported proposals for regular constitutional conventions did not make it into the final report. WfaAR was vocal in its agreement with Committee members that the current federal Constitution is in urgent need of rectification to both fix and modernise it.
