During the Head of State visit 18-23 October, there will be several republican events held in Canberra on the day of the official reception hosted by the Prime Minister in the Great Hall at Parliament House. They are:
- Monday 21 October 11.30am-2.30pm Republic UK Protest outside federal Parliament House (top of Federation Mall) – all Australian republicans invited to participate – bring your banners and signs. Ceremonial welcome at 1pm can be glimpsed from afar; also meet and greet with the public on the forecourt approx 2pm (possible security screening). The protest will be held on the public space adjacent to the building on the lawns so no security screening required; usual place). Note possible road closures in the area after 12 noon. - Monday 21 October 5pm to 7pm Australian Republic Movement at Badger and Co, ANU campus (note that there will be similar ARM events in all State capitals other than Perth and Darwin during the visit, dates and times vary; see www.republic.org.au)
- Monday 21 October 7pm to 9pm Republic UK event at King O’Malley’s Civic. Hear Graham Smith, CEO of Republic UK discuss “Not my King: Will the UK beat Australia to a Republic?”. Hosted in collaboration with Women for an Australian Republic. More info: www.republic.org.uk/events
