Government confirms 6 November as the date for referendum (this will require the referendum legislation to pass through both Houses of Federal Parliament by 20 August). Also announced was the setting up of a joint parliamentary committee to consider the proposed changes to the Constitution and associated legislation with 12 members from the House of Representatives (six Government and six Opposition) and six Senators (three Government and three Opposition ie two ALP and one Democrat)
