At a launch for women politicians supporting the republic at federal Parliament House in Canberra, Senator Amanda Vanstone from SA said humorously,” We accept that women can say ‘no’, but on this occasion, we choose not to.” This was reported in the Sydney Morning Herald on its quirky Stay in Touch page under the headline “Girlie Guide to the Republic”, the politicians attending were described as “giggling Gerties”.
