Another poll published in The Australian confirmed the slump in support for the republic. Of 1153 interviews (city and country), 44 percent of women – compared with 48 percent of men – preferred a republic with a directly elected president, 12 percent favoured the parliamentary appointment model while 40 percent wanted for no change. Only 4 percent were undecided.
