The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has agreed with the Greens to hold referendums during the new Government’s three year term, or at the next election, on Indigenous recognition and recognition of local government in the Constitution. The prospect of referendums also holds promise for non-binding votes on the Republic at the same time.
