{"id":691,"date":"2021-03-10T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T12:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womenrep.org\/?p=691"},"modified":"2023-04-04T22:31:18","modified_gmt":"2023-04-04T12:31:18","slug":"arm-makes-an-announcement-on-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrep.org\/?p=691","title":{"rendered":"ARM makes an announcement on &#8220;Model&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Galvanised by the Meghan and Harry interview, ARM suddenly announces that it will reveal a &#8220;Model&#8221;, presumably about how to select the Head of State, &#8220;later in the year&#8221;.\u00a0 The intention now is to bypass preliminary plebiscites and go straight to referendum. We have counselled ARM against this approach because voters have to be onside for such a major change ie they need to be fully consulted. Malcolm Turnbull supports plebiscites most recently in this autobiography &#8220;A Bigger Picture&#8221; published in April 2020. ARM claims that its model to go to referendum will be the result of public consultation but this is only with its members, a process has been aleady been underway for more than a year so progress is slow. A few months later, they brought in a team of constitutional lawyers to assist. The date for announcement is still &#8220;later in the year&#8221; reasserted in both May and June.
