Hawke Government Minister Susan Ryan was a dedicated supporter of the republican cause from the beginning of the 1990s and a prominent public spokesperson for the change during and after the referendum. She took a minimalist approach, supporting only an Australian Head of State appointed by Parliament. She was appointed to the Republican Advisory Committee in 1993 by Prime Minister Keating; also a Life Member of the ARM and Deputy Chair of its National Council 2000-2003.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We lose another woman republican of note.
