{"id":1762,"date":"2012-11-10T10:25:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-10T00:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womenrep.org\/?p=1762"},"modified":"2023-08-30T10:25:29","modified_gmt":"2023-08-30T00:25:29","slug":"royal-visit-diminishes-us-and-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrep.org\/?p=1762","title":{"rendered":"Royal Visit diminishes us and them"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Late afternoon and, thankfully,\u00a0another\u00a0tedious royal visit ends.\u00a0\u00a0The colonials have\u00a0been inspected for six days by Charles and Camilla!\u00a0Quite\u00a0bizarre, especially the six scrubbed merinos in a pen atop the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney for a gig promoting\u00a0our wool industry\u00a0&#8211; Charles wore a suit made of Australian wool and, presumably, at\u00a0a similar event in New\u00a0Zealand, a Kiwi grown ensemble.\u00a0Actually,\u00a0WfaAR feels quite sorry for them as they looked as if they wished they were anywhere else, like at home with their feet up, both the\u00a0Cornwalls and the sheep. The &#8220;crowds&#8221;\u00a0were underwhelmingly small, mostly\u00a0royal\u00a0obsessives clutching dogs\u00a0or expat and visiting Brits.\u00a0The Canberrans, who get it,\u00a0stayed away in droves\u00a0from the\u00a0opening\u00a0of\u00a0Queen\u00a0Elizabeth\u00a0Terrace.\u00a0PM Gillard gave another woefully fawning speech to mark the occasion (she&#8217;d been\u00a0out of the country\u00a0all week).
