{"id":1648,"date":"2013-08-16T09:28:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-15T23:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womenrep.org\/?p=1648"},"modified":"2023-08-30T09:28:51","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T23:28:51","slug":"challenge-to-secrecy-of-governor-generals-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrep.org\/?p=1648","title":{"rendered":"Challenge to Secrecy of Governor-General&#8217;s Records"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karen Kline from Brisbane&nbsp;is&nbsp;challenging a decision by the&nbsp;Governor-General&#8217;s office&nbsp;and&nbsp;two courts not&nbsp;to release documents relating to the award of Australian honours.&nbsp; The High Court has now&nbsp;agreed to hear an appeal against the Federal Court&#8217;s decision.&nbsp;&nbsp;During the leave application&nbsp;hearing, the Governor-General&#8217;s lawyer told the High Court that&nbsp;specific exemption&nbsp;of the G-G&#8217;s records from the FOI Act was in &#8220;the public interest&#8221;&nbsp;defined&nbsp;as necessary to &#8220;preserve the confidentiality of the G-G and the Crown&#8221;.
