{"id":1600,"date":"2013-05-02T09:13:00","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T23:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womenrep.org\/?p=1600"},"modified":"2023-08-30T09:13:55","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T23:13:55","slug":"queensland-royal-succession-law-passes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrep.org\/?p=1600","title":{"rendered":"Queensland Royal Succession Law Passes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In one of the silliest disagreements between the Federal Government and a State, Queensland stuck to its guns and quickly passed its own royal succession laws (see 26 April news item).\u00a0 State Attorney-General, Jarrod Bleijie, said history warranted such a move. &#8220;As the Queen of Queensland dispute of the mid 1970s shows, the Government takes very seriously both the state of Queensland&#8217;s and the executive government&#8217;s ability to maintain its direct connection to the sovereign&#8221;.\u00a0 But the State also\u00a0compromised in its law\u00a0and made a request to the Commonwealth to implement similar legislation.
