{"id":1360,"date":"2015-09-08T21:21:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-08T11:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womenrep.org\/?p=1360"},"modified":"2023-08-29T21:21:25","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T11:21:25","slug":"motion-for-republic-in-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrep.org\/?p=1360","title":{"rendered":"Motion for Republic in Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senator Katy Gallagher (ACT) newly announced as co-convenor of the parliamentary republic group (see News Item of 27 August) puts a motion to the Senate asking\u00a0it to note: that there is (a) significant support across the Australian community for a republic with an Australian head of state and (b) that the process for change could include a constitutional convention to discuss models; a plebiscite to gauge the level of support for the proposal as well as preferred method for appointing\u00a0the Head of State and a referendum.
