In every electorate, even the 17\u00a0majority NO electorates,\u00a0women\u00a0voluntarily voted at a significantly higher percentage than men, generally four to six percent higher. This shows a high level of engagement by women\u00a0in civil society that helped to carry the YES vote to majority.\u00a0Even more significantly, it shows a very\u00a0high female participation rate\u00a0on a social issue, often over 80 percent,\u00a0compared with\u00a0women&#8217;s support for\u00a0a Republic generally running about 10 percent lower than that of men\u00a0at around 35 to 40 percent. Women are not in favour of a Republic because they are\u00a0disengaged from politics or don&#8217;t understand the question or its implications\u00a0but, much more likely, because they don&#8217;t agree with the proposition.
