But\u00a0Ailwood has an important\u00a0point to make about\u00a0a\u00a0future Australian Republic.\u00a0Identifying the people\u00a0of the\u00a0Indigenous nations around Sydney as\u00a0&#8220;the Australians&#8221; at the time of British settlement in 1788, Ailwood says that we all must act and understand &#8220;Australian culture&#8221; and like those\u00a0original Australians accept that &#8220;the land owns us&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;Only then&#8221;, he writes,\u00a0&#8220;can our country develop a unique national identity to match its proud heritage. This is the land that\u00a0we\u00a0live in and must\u00a0embrace&#8221;.\u00a0Sounds like a reconciled Republic to WfaAR. Tim Ailwood is a Sydney actor and drama teacher.
